Watch the latest Corvette ZR1 get thrashed at the Nurburgring
With rumors of the rear-engine Corvette looming around the corner
, it’s looking like the last hurrah of the traditional Corvette
could be the upcoming ZR1. Chevy
has been tight-lipped about its new king Corvette, but it has been seen testing – a lot. This latest romp around the Nurburgring shows the ‘Vettes strange extra exhaust parts that try to keep the sound within the ‘Ring’s requirements. While it’s not confirmed, it’s likely that GM will resurrect the LT5 engine name for this generation’s ZR1
, but it’s unknown if it will sport dual-overhead camshafts like the original ZR1’s LT5 power plant.
What we call tell, is that this ZR1 is going to be an absolute track weapon. The rear-wing rivals what we’ve seen on the Dodge Viper ACR with the Extreme Aero Package
. Hopefully, the folks at GM will slap a sacrificial plastic piece to the front splitter, so you won’t have to replace yours after the first trip to the track.
We don’t know when the 2018 Corvette ZR1 will launch, but the clock is ticking. It will only be a matter of time before GM rips the sheet off what could be the front-engine ‘Vette’s swan song. Until then, check out the video above to watch someone beat the hell out of a test mule on the ‘Ring.
